Whatever you focus on will grow!

How many of you want to do great things in life? How many of you do actually have some form of dreams, be it those that you wish would come true, or those that you do not think will come true…
I believe all of you have dreams.
So do I.
I want to carry the burden of my Pastors and my leaders. I want to be a pastor – in that order.

You would have heard of Martin Luther King Jr’s famous speech “I have a dream” – his dream came true.
You would have heard William Wilberforce who dreamt and fight against the slave trade – his dream came true 4 days shortly after he died.
You would have heard of Pastor How and Pastor Lia who dreamt that one day we would have a “cross-shaped” stage – their dreams came true.

So how do you let that dream or goal of yours get born into reality…

First) FIRST. That’s right, it is not a typo, nor am I sleepy. You got to be willing to put it first in your life. If you do not want it hard enough, how would you be able to get it? How would you even deserve it if you get it.

Matt 6:33 “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you”. I believe your dreams are included in “all these things”.

So seek them first! Chase after your Godly visions and goals!

Second) Oblige. Many people hear this word and they sulk because no one likes to do something out of obligation. It doesn’t bring comfort to a soul.
When you are obliged to give, means that you do it because someone tells you so.
When you are obliged, you don’t do it willingly.
Oblige is the opposite of willingness.
Never feel oblige.
But before I kill the word “oblige” in your heart, how many of you want to hear why it is the second point to make your dreams real.
Open your ears and listen to me attentively (Or read carefully). If you really want to do something, you will not let it go, to the extent that you feel obliged to keep to it and never give it up.

It is like “Others can, I cannot”.
People can choose not to pray, nor tithe, but I don’t give myself a choice. I must do it if I want to be this...that... or that...
Obligation
If you feel that way towards your dreams, I believe strongly that your dream has a future! Because you never give up, and never give in!

Thirdly) Concentrate. I do not need to belabor this point. Give your attention, your mind, your energy and concentrate on what you want to achieve/accomplish.
Concentration is the secret of strength – Ralph Waldo Emerson (An American poet, lecturer, essayist)
If you are able to concentrate, you can do 1 thing well.
If you are able to muster the skill of concentrating as and when you want, you can do many things well.

Fourthly) Understand. It is not enough to have a dream and run after it. You need to understand the situation and find the best way to achieve your goal.
There is a Chinese sayings “Zhi di zhi bi, bai zhang bai sheng”. It means that you need to know your enemy, and yourself, then you can have successful victories. Understand the situation, understand your strength and weakness, so you can exalt on your strengths and work on your weaknesses, and enjoy winning your battles!

Fifth) Serious. Get serious. If you really want it, you get serious and make things happen. Willingness drives.
Willingness sparks energy!
Willingness speaks about the extra mile!
Only when you are serious about it!
When you are serious about this, you give up something else.
“For everything you have missed, you have gained something else, and for everything you gain, you lose something else.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson
Are you serious enough to chase after your dreams.........and give up other things? You know what might hinder you...
So are you going to get serious?...I hope you do.


So how are you accomplishing your dream and destiny?
If you want to see it come true, you need to have the five points!

1) First
2) Obligation
3) Concentrate
4) Understand
5) Serious

Let me tell you, if you are able to FOCUS, you will be able to do great exploits for God!
It is the power of FOCUS that brings one far!
Proverbs 23:7 “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.”
That is why, whatever a man can imagine himself to be, he shall become.
It is the faith, 4dimension power!
The total mustering of energy and mind to do 1 thing that creates the change in it.
Whatever you FOCUSes on, will grow.

First of all, Pastor Sy shared about his personal revelation of God:

• Everyone has needs in their lives, human are not perfect.
  And God doesn’t take away your needs
  He fills it.
• Who whole world may classify you as “failure” (just like in the case of Pastor Sy because he was a gay)
  But God doesn’t see you as a failure! He didn’t create you to fail!
  

Sermon
Starting, Pastor Sy teaches us about sin and what could cause human to sin.

Sin: To “fall short” or miss the mark or standard of God’s intent.

E.g.

• God didn’t make human to take someone else’s things (steal).
• God created hormones, man and female, but God didn’t intend for pre-marital sex as it will lead to unnecessary problems.
• God created the mind, but didn’t intend for it to think badly, have lustful thoughts, bad intentions towards one another, but of love and a sound mind!

The good thing is that God forgives, but the world doesn't forgive.

It's like a person who commit suicide from jumping off from the top of a building.

Right before he touches the ground, he might felt enlightened and ask God to forgive him of his wrongdoing, and God forgives. Guess what, the law of gravity doesn't forgive. He/she will still crash and die.

Considering another example, someone who is contracted with AIDS. He/she might regret, and go towards God for forgiveness knowing that is a wrongdoing, and not according to God's wills of human being. But guess what, AIDS will still kill.

So in generally, people sin because they are either

• misled by the society, family, peers, culture
• weak - doesn't know how to fight off the bad things, human are weak!
• resisting God - knowing what is right, but doesn't trust God so you resist Him.

Well, all these are just from the bible which says "The spirit is willing but the flesh is not".

Now everyone may feel that human are such a failure creation, born to sin...

But well God also wants to tell us that we are born to grow to be strong.

Ask yourself, if a baby learns to walk, there are bound to have falls and injuries, right?

But then does the parents scold the baby and say "you evil baby, don't you know it is God's will that human should use their limbs and walk!"

If not, then how come if people sin, there are some people who despice them and mocked them.

The baby carries on training until 1 day he/she can walk, and slowly moves on to run, jump, and eventually drive?

So it should be the same with our spiritual walk. (there you see, spiritual WALK).

The key is: do not give up, no matter what.

Compare your 10 years of training, to eternity in Heaven with our Father God!

It can take 10 years for you to overcome your disbelief in GOd, but it will earn you an ETERNITY, know what it means - forever!

Sometimes we feel that God already know we are weak. (He does)

But we always ask God, if so, then how come you still want to create us.

Well, God is a good parent, and He wants us as His children no matter how dirty and/or dumb we are. God is love!

Genesis – beginning.
Genesis of a Genius – Beginning of a genius in forming…


Yes, every one of you.

In Genesis, the commandment for every human was to fill the earth, subdue it and dominate every living creatures and the whole earth.

Yes, those creatures flying on the sky, diving in the sea, and roaming the lands – fangs, wings, poison, claws, etc…

If that was God’s commandment for human, what do you think about it? God is ridiculous, unreasonable?

Well, NO!

He has also given us a tool to carry out this commandment – our brain!

The human brain is so amazing – if you do a research, it can actually store up to 125 trillion 500 billion characters… YES!! For your information – 125, 500, 000, 000, 000 characters

But so sadly, average human uses less than 10% of our brain. Just to encourage you, the smartest person on earth – Albert Einstein’s brain is slightly smaller than average human brain. =)

So what is this all about…? Let me describe more: our brainwaves move at a super duper remarkable speed “120m/s”. Our brain is super amazing, yeah? – Now you see God is reasonable…

This brain is the one that carried man to the sky (beat the birds) and even to the moon.
This brain is the one that went into the sea (beat the fishes).
This brain is the one that roams the earth (beat the animals) and control them.

How our brain gets develop
Our brain develops as people use it – the more you use it, the more it gets intelligent.

Thinking makes you intelligent. Intelligent DOES NOT make you think.
So that’s why, no one is born stupid or smart – it is the one you train your brain, since young, or any age at all!

Let’s have a short test and think about it:

What is 2 x 2? Answer is 4?
Can you imagine how hard you have to understand that when you were primary 1?
Well, what’s the difference? You are still you, your brain is still intact – you didn’t insert any micro-chip inside, did you?
Let me tell you, the difference is because you read it many times, done the question many times, so you get used to it and your brain stores that information so you can remember it easier.

THEREFORE – the more you use it, the more intelligent your brain gets!

That’s why, every one of us gets an opportunity to be smarter…NO…no… the correct way is to get more intelligent. No matter how much we study, we are still humans; we don’t evolve to be aliens. (There is no such thing as evolution rule also) Hence, we just get more intelligent – knowing more information than other people.

That’s why, GENESIS OF A GENIUS!!! Everyone has a chance to develop their mind.


And our first commandment is to love the Lord your God with all your heart, your soul, your MIND, and your strength!

Christians shouldn’t be stupid…but because of the marvelous work that we are doing, the more Christians should be intelligent and use their mind to do a better work with a better quality to glorify GOD! AMEN!!

Knowledege, Understanding, Wisdom

Knowledge - acquiring of knowledge
Understanding - Interpretation of knowledge
Wisdom - Applying of knowledge

Isn't is amazing how a person need all 3? Let me tell you why......


Wisdom is a very precious character in a person's life.
It is wisdom that determines whether a person do the right thing at the right time...
prevent bad things from happening in the future...
applying the actions at right situations so to ensure things go smoothly...

Wisdom is the word that causes actions from people.
If ever you got fed-up because someone did something and irritated you, it's because that person was unwise (Or unless you are petty, proud, or insecure)

So actually, everyone wants to have wisdom, just like how King Solomon (the wisest man on planet earth), Daniel, and especially Jesus had!

But before we have wisdom, we must understand the level it progresses..
Knowledge --> Understanding --> Wisdom...

Knowledge is just memorising facts. Knowing what is going on (The "WHO", "WHAT", "WHERE", "WHEN")...
But just 1 thing to inspire you - THE MORE YOU USE YOUR BRAIN, THE MORE DEVELOPED IT GETS, THE EASIER YOU CAN REMEMBER THINGS!
Now you know why some people keep forgetting things. =P

Understanding the knowledge is the 2nd step - to be able to interpret it (The "WHY"), knowing the reason of the cause. Knowledge alone cannot bring you anywhere, it just tells you, but if you have understanding, you will know things better, it enlightens.
But the very key thing here is the speed...to understand.
Daniel, in the bible, was quick to understand!!

It is like you have memorised the whole Math textbook, formulae, structures...but during the exam, you didn't do well because you couldn't finish in time... (Sounds familiar?)

This is a problem with the SPEED OF UNDERSTANDING - too slow...

BUT... the good news is that our minds can be developed. Besides just bombarding it with knowledge, facts, information, you can practise math questions (or other things) to train your mind to think faster!!! FASTER!!! Praise God, there is no such thing as born stupid or born slow!

Lastly, once you have the knowledge, understands all of it, you can choose to do something about it... And of course, it is the people who have wisdom that will apply their knowledge and do something fruitful.

Let's take an example to help understand things better. (Pastor How is awesome, man!?)

Information: What is happening to our nation's focus and direction in the next 20 years - increasing population to 6million? Singapore is thinking of decriminalising homosexuality. You don't know about it? (KNOWLEDGE!!! Go read the newspapers! Feed yourself with knowledge)

Understanding: Singapore wants to attract more people (preferable smarter people, lawyers, doctors etc...) to our country, and especially tourists as well also... So in order to do that, Singapore has to change from a "safe country" to a "exciting country". If you think about it, Singapore is termed as ... "clean, garden-city, efficient"? But is that fun? Well...no?

So that's why Singapore is trying to westernize, and allow more things like Casino, integrated resorts,(and thinking of decriminalising homosexuality) to be more open and exciting, to attract people.

Wisdom: Before I go on, you can ask yourself this question, "So? What do I do?" That is wisdom... After knowing what happen, understanding it, what are you going to do about it?

The wisdom in this situation is to: STUDY! Compete with these extra 2 million people that are going to come in and steal our occupations!!! If we don't study, by then we will be in workforce but these people that immigrate are like the top students of various neighbouring countries (or further), we are sure going to have a problem!

That's why Pastors are very concerned about our studies! 1st hand, it develops our minds, trains our brains! On 2nd hand, to earn us a living!

And what other actions we can take? GUARD OUR HEARTS. As Singapore is moving towards being open-minded and "exciting", we got to remain pure in our hearts and actions. Let's be a new generation of youths that don't succumb under pressure! Let's be strong! And to start training us for the future (to be able to work and yet serve God fervently), we got to start doing it now - to serve God fervently and yet doing well for out studies!!!

Philippians 4:13 All things are possible through Christ who strengthens me!

Knowledge, Understanding, Wisdom!

You learn something? It will surely change your world! - Amen!
